The Saudi Central Bank chaired the annual meeting of the Steering Committee of the International Monetary Fund Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism Thematic Fund for Capacity Development in Paris. The meeting brought together the fund's 12 donor partners, IMF representatives and observer organizations including the Financial Action Task Force, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the World Bank and the Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units. The fund, established in 2009, finances technical assistance and capacity-building programs to strengthen anti-money laundering and counterterrorist financing frameworks in beneficiary countries, particularly those needing support to combat money laundering and terrorist financing crimes. Its work focuses on reinforcing legislative, regulatory and supervisory frameworks and building the capacity of competent authorities. The steering committee sets the fund's strategic direction, approves the annual work plan and budget, reviews performance and progress, and discusses projects and initiatives on its agenda.
