The Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten (CBCS) increased the maximum amount for a one-time walk-in exchange of Netherlands Antillean guilders (ANG) into Caribbean guilders (XCG) to ANG 20,000 from ANG 2,500. Individuals can exchange up to this amount at the CBCS without an appointment. Exchanges above ANG 20,000 require an appointment via the CBCS website and documentation of the source of funds, with the process framed as aligning with AML/CFT requirements. The CBCS also reminded commercial banks of their agreement to offer at least one fee-free option for exchanging ANG and noted that account holders can convert their guilders at no cost; surveyed banks reported offering at least three denominations at ATMs, while banks offering only two will explore adding a third. The bank cautioned the public against exchanging money on behalf of others, noting such requests may indicate fraud or money laundering. From 1 July 2025, the ANG ceases to be legal tender; it remains exchangeable until 31 March 2026 at banks and until 31 March 2055 at the CBCS.
