Panama's Superintendency of Banks (SBP) reported that its technical staff took part in the XXXIV Latin American Trust Congress (COLAFI) 2025, held from 1 to 3 October in Antigua Guatemala, which convened regional fiduciary and financial sector specialists to exchange experiences and discuss key trends in trust services. Representing the SBP, Luis Sánchez Morillo, Manager for Fiduciary Prevention, served as a panellist in a session on beneficial ownership in trusts, focusing on the importance of accurate beneficial owner identification to support transparency and help prevent financial risks. He was accompanied by technical staff from the SBP’s Regulation, Supervision of Financial Intermediaries and Trust Companies, Legal, and Anti-Money Laundering and Illicit Operations units. Discussions during the congress also covered new regulatory trends in the region, the integration of digital assets and tokenisation into trust structures, the role of trusts in asset protection and business continuity, and the use of trusts to support sustainability and project development.
