The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority ran an insurance training session for journalists in Zanzibar, organised through its Unguja Zone and Zanzibar Office in collaboration with the Tanzania Insurance Ombudsman, to strengthen media capacity to report on insurance issues. The session, held on 3 March 2026 at the ZSSF Hall, brought together 96 journalists from 40 media outlets in Unguja. Deputy Commissioner of Insurance Khadija Saidi outlined how the authority operates and encouraged participants to act as ambassadors for insurance education, while Unguja Zone Manager Kurenje Mbura urged journalists to steer the public toward insurers with valid licences issued by the regulator. Tanzania Insurance Ombudsman disputes registrar Jamal Mwasha covered the ombudsman’s role in handling disputes and the operational differences between the ombudsman and the regulator, alongside modules on insurance products, the authority’s IT systems, market opportunities, benefits of insurance, and challenges facing the sector. Participants requested the training be offered more regularly, and the authority committed to further strengthening cooperation.
