The Bank of Japan’s Research and Statistics Department released updated research data and charts on measures of underlying inflation, designed to remove transitory disturbances from headline consumer price movements to help assess underlying price trends. The release covers four estimates published in line with Japan’s official Consumer Price Index: a diffusion index of increasing and decreasing items, a trimmed mean, a mode, and a weighted median. These estimates are, in principle, published at 2:00 p.m. two business days after the official CPI release, with methodological background referenced in Bank of Japan Review Series publications.
