The Bank of Botswana has won the 2026 Business Continuity Institute Africa Award for Continuity and Resilience Innovation for an internally developed web application that assesses the maturity of central banks’ business continuity management systems. The bank will represent Africa at the institute’s global awards alongside five other continental winners. Designed against ISO 22301:2019, the application enables Southern African Development Community central banks to identify gaps, benchmark performance, track progress and plan improvements through automated scoring, dashboards, reports, trend analysis and peer comparisons. The tool was developed through the regional Committee of Central Bank Governors’ ICT Business Resilience Subcommittee and is intended to reduce reliance on commercial systems while supporting regional preparedness for critical financial sector operations.
