Peru's Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and AFP (SBS) published an update on financial inclusion in the Junín region, reporting increased use of financial accounts and mobile wallets and setting out related engagement with savings and credit cooperatives. Between 2019 and 2024, the share of adults in Junín with an account or mobile wallet in the financial system rose from 42% to 63%, close to the national average of 67%. Based on ENAHO 2024, 36% of adults in the region hold credit in the financial system, slightly above the national average of 35%. The figures were presented by SBS superintendent Sergio Espinosa Chiroque in a meeting with the savings and credit cooperative (Coopac) Crediplata, framed as part of SBS work to strengthen Coopac management and maintain ongoing dialogue on their needs and perspectives. As part of its actions linked to Coopac governance, SBS also delivered the training session "Finances for the Cooperative Member: Strengthening Cooperative Education" to more than 70 cooperative members from Huancavelica, Junín and Pasco, covering financial education, citizen services and how the cooperative system functions, including technological innovation, the role of internal audit, the credit registry and good practices for managing over-indebtedness risk and credit risk assessment.
