The New Zealand Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment has published the Anti-Scam Alliance's 2026 work programme, setting out a coordinated package to reduce harm from online financial scams. The programme focuses on stronger disruption tools, smarter data sharing, clearer public guidance, and stronger sector codes and practices. Planned actions include expanding the banking Confirmation of Payee system, reviewing the telecommunications sector Scam Prevention Code, and developing enhanced tools for reporting scams. The Alliance, established in July 2025, brings together banks, telecommunications providers, digital platforms, consumer groups and government agencies and has been working on cross-sector prevention, detection and disruption initiatives. The update comes against rising scam losses, with gross losses of NZD 265 million in the year to October 2025.
