The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) announced that Emre Tahsin Basar has been arrested and charged with eight counts of dishonestly using his position as an employee to gain a financial advantage. ASIC alleges that, while working as a desk assistant at equities advisory business BW Equities Pty Ltd, Basar sold shares from a client account without authorization between Feb. 11 and 17, 2026, generating about AUD 498,500. The funds were allegedly transferred to an account held by Zorlu Capital Pty Ltd, where Basar is the sole director, secretary and shareholder. He was granted conditional bail and appeared before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court for a filing hearing, with the matter listed for committal mention on Dec. 17, 2026. The Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions is prosecuting the case following ASIC’s referral, and each offense carries a maximum penalty of 15 years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to AUD 765,000, or both.
