Ceres convened investors, companies and government leaders at Climate Week NYC and called for coordinated action to remove barriers to large-scale climate finance. Discussions focused on scalable investments in areas including grid infrastructure, clean steel and sustainable data centers, with Ceres arguing that rising energy and water demand and extreme weather require businesses to move beyond managing climate risks and finance practical solutions. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a USD 1 billion investment to meet growing energy needs and strengthen grid reliability. New York City Comptroller Mark Levine separately proposed a USD 5 billion expansion of private market climate investments by three city public pension funds, covering areas such as grid modernization, energy storage, clean transportation and building decarbonization. Ceres also cited record worldwide clean energy transition investment of USD 2.3 trillion and estimates of a similar total in 2026.
