The Bank of Italy published a notice on changes to Italy’s gold market framework introduced by Legislative Decree No. 211 of 10 December 2024, in force since 17 January 2025, which transfers responsibilities for Professional Gold Operators (OPO) from the Bank of Italy to the Body of Agents and Brokers (OAM). The amendments, adopted as part of the alignment of national rules with Regulation (EU) 2018/1672 on controls on cash, designate OAM as the authority responsible for verifying that OPOs meet the requirements set out in Law No. 7/2000. The decree also requires OAM to establish a dedicated register by 17 April 2025, in which operators meeting the Law No. 7/2000 requirements must be enrolled.
