The National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ Financial Regulation Standards and Accreditation Committee voted to accredit the insurance regulatory departments in Arkansas, the District of Columbia, Indiana and Michigan. Accreditation confirms that the departments meet baseline standards for financial solvency oversight of multistate insurers, allowing nondomestic states to rely on the accredited domestic regulator’s supervision. The accreditation process includes an independent on-site assessment of solvency laws, financial analysis and examination capabilities, organizational and staffing practices, and oversight of licensing, redomestications and changes of control. Accredited departments undergo a full review at least every five years, supplemented by annual interim reviews and follow-up where improvements are required.
