The Central Bank of Russia published new statistics showing a marked increase in the use of biometric and QR code payments for everyday purchases in 2025 Q2. Biometric payments were used about 60 million times for goods and services worth around RUB 45 billion in April–June 2025. This was 1.5 times higher than 2025 Q1 and 11 times higher year on year, with an average transaction amount of RUB 770 versus RUB 774 in the prior quarter. QR codes were used almost 990 million times for purchases worth over RUB 1.3 trillion over the same period, up 25% in number of payments and 16% in value compared with 2025 Q1.
