The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued an alert drawing attention to Dah Sing Bank, Limited’s report of a fraudulent website and related social media accounts that have been reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reminded the public that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to banks’ websites to carry out transactions, nor request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords by phone, email or SMS (including via embedded hyperlinks). Individuals who have provided personal information or carried out financial transactions through, or in response to, the fraudulent website or social media accounts were advised to contact Dah Sing Bank using the contact details in the bank’s press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
