The National Bank of Denmark has announced that, from 29 May at 12:00, citizens can register online claims to redeem banknotes that will become worthless after 31 May 2026. The digital option supplements in-person registration at the banknote exchange points and is intended to relieve heavy demand and long queues, particularly in Copenhagen. Claims registered online or physically by 31 May will be processed. Until now, redemption required physical attendance at an exchange point. Citizens who register through the National Bank of Denmarkâs website will be contacted by FOREX over the coming months to submit the banknotes and required documentation. The bank said enquiries had risen sharply in recent days despite deploying extra staff, opening more counters and allowing some people to register in person and return later. The three exchange points are close to 50,000 transactions, with more than DKK 200 million in banknotes handed in, and the longest waits have mainly been in Copenhagen.
