In an interview with Kathimerini, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Greece’s minister of national economy and finance and Eurogroup president, said the ministry will soon present about 30 specific investment opportunities under its Invest Ahead roadmap. The opportunities, spanning areas such as island desalination, luxury yacht shipyards and agricultural processing, could attract up to EUR 20 billion in new investment and generate EUR 20 billion to EUR 25 billion in additional income over 10 years. The roadmap aims to raise investment and support a shift toward larger, more technology intensive and export oriented businesses, including through mergers and acquisitions. Investment is forecast to reach 17.7% of gross domestic product this year, up from 11% in 2019 but still below the roughly 22% recorded in Spain, Italy and Portugal. Pierrakakis described annual growth of 2% as a baseline rather than a ceiling, linking faster growth and convergence with Europe to higher investment and productivity.
