The Central Bank of Madagascar has expanded its collaboration with universities through student training, professional placements and field research on the future of Malagasy currency. The initiative includes training for 67 students from EMIT Fianarantsoa and a new partnership agreement with the University of Antananarivo. The EMIT students completed several days of training in Antananarivo on the central bank’s role, operations and professions. They will gather public views on the future of the currency and raise awareness of citizens’ responsibility to preserve banknotes and coins, given the cost of maintaining cash in circulation. Under the University of Antananarivo agreement, groups of 40 students per session will receive similar training, gain work experience and undertake field activities in the Analamanga region related to regional socioeconomic studies.
