The Brunei Darussalam Ministry of Finance and Brunei Darussalam Central Bank supported a capital market development seminar focused on expanding corporate use of sukuk as an alternative financing instrument. Organized by the Credit Guarantee and Investment Facility, Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam and the International Capital Market Association, the event brought together almost 100 policymakers, regulators and potential issuers from government linked companies and private corporations. The seminar covered the sukuk issuance process, key Shariah considerations and a regional case study of a guaranteed and completed issuance. Participants also discussed international practices and the collaboration needed to develop Brunei Darussalam’s local currency corporate sukuk market. The Credit Guarantee and Investment Facility indicated that it is prepared to support further market development through credit guarantees.
