The Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s August 2026 residential mortgage survey showed a broad decline in new business. Mortgage applications fell 8.3% from July to 8,446, while approved loans dropped 28.2% to HKD 32.2 billion. Loans drawn down rose 11.6% to HKD 32.8 billion. Approvals for primary market transactions declined 31.8% to HKD 9.1 billion, and those for secondary market transactions fell 36.7% to HKD 15.3 billion. Refinancing approvals increased 6.8% to HKD 7.8 billion. Outstanding mortgage loans rose 0.6% to HKD 1.98 trillion at end-August, while the delinquency ratio remained low at 0.11% and the rescheduled loan ratio was nearly 0%.
