The Payment Systems Regulator has appointed Andrew Wigston as interim Head of Supervision and Compliance Monitoring (SCM) with immediate effect, replacing Oliver Hanmer for an initial six-month period. Wigston joins from the Financial Conduct Authority, where he was Head of Financial Crime Supervision and previously Head of UK Retail Banking Supervision. He will lead SCM’s work programme, including supervising payment firms, monitoring compliance with PSR directions, challenging poor practice and supporting enforcement activity. The PSR framed the appointment in the context of its ongoing consolidation into the FCA, with Wigston expected to play a role in supporting staff as they prepare to move into the FCA.
