The Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market of the Republic of Kazakhstan issued a consumer warning that older citizens remain among the most vulnerable groups for financial fraud, highlighting phone and messenger-based impersonation schemes and urging people not to disclose banking credentials or follow instructions to move money. The alert describes common tactics such as calls posing as bank staff, law enforcement officers or relatives, messages about non-existent compensation, and offers to arrange loans or invest in “profitable” products. Fraudsters may claim suspicious activity on an account and pressure victims to transfer funds to a “safe account”, install remote-access software, or share card details, CVV codes, SMS codes, or online banking logins, including by creating a sense of urgency through stories of an emergency involving a family member. The agency recommends ending suspicious conversations, recording the caller’s name and position, and calling back via official numbers from an organisation’s website or the phone number on the back of a payment card, as well as discussing financial decisions with trusted relatives; it also encourages families to regularly explain scam patterns, help older people use digital services safely, and keep devices protected and updated.
