The Central Bank of Paraguay hosted the 43rd Meeting of Presidents of South American Central Banks in Asuncion, bringing together central bank presidents and delegates from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay. The meeting focused on current macroeconomic and financial challenges in the region, with discussions covering cryptoasset regulation, monetary policy under more frequent and severe climate shocks, progress in payment systems and emerging asset tokenization trends. Participants exchanged experiences and stressed the importance of stronger technical cooperation among central banks, safe financial innovation and policies aimed at preserving macroeconomic stability and confidence in monetary institutions. The discussion was framed as a regional dialogue on shared risks and opportunities amid global uncertainty. Attendees agreed to hold the next meetings in Chile in 2026 and Uruguay in 2027. For the next meeting, the Central Bank of Chile will present an analysis of carry trades, the Central Bank of Uruguay will address central bank communications, and the Central Reserve Bank of Peru will coordinate the annual South American payment systems report and present progress on that work.
