Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of Finance emphasizes financial intelligence, customs security and information sharing in counterterrorism strategy

In opening remarks to the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Counterterrorism, the Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of Finance outlined the role of financial intelligence, customs administration, regulatory institutions and government information security in disrupting terrorism and transnational organized crime. The ministry continues to strengthen the Financial Intelligence Unit of Trinidad and Tobago, modernize customs administration and work with international partners on border security and organized crime. The remarks highlighted the risk that compromised commercially sensitive customs information could be exploited for criminal or commercial advantage. They also stressed the need for coordination and timely information sharing among ministries, national security agencies and other public institutions.
