The National Bank of Denmark published updated payment statistics showing that total card-payment turnover in Denmark increased to DKK 661 billion in 2024 from DKK 640 billion in 2023, measured as the nominal value of all card transactions carried out in Denmark across physical and online channels. Danish cardholders accounted for DKK 616 billion of 2024 turnover in Denmark, while foreign cardholders generated DKK 45 billion. Danish card turnover abroad totalled DKK 158 billion in 2024, which was 16% higher than in 2023. Alongside its quarterly statistics, the central bank also publishes daily card-payment statistics based on transactions reported by six Danish card acquirers, noting that coverage is not complete but trends are broadly comparable. The daily series already shows developments up to and including 19 January 2025, and the bank highlights particularly large differences between the daily and quarterly series from Q2 2020 to Q2 2021, partly reflecting pandemic-driven changes in consumption and payment patterns.
