The Uganda Capital Markets Authority launched a program marking its 30th anniversary and set a five-year target to increase funded collective investment scheme accounts from more than 220,000 to one million. Its priorities include expanding retail and youth participation, increasing share ownership and company listings, improving digital access, and strengthening supervision, disclosure and enforcement. Collective investment scheme assets under management have reached UGX 7.06 trillion, domestic market capitalization has surpassed UGX 15 trillion and total capital raised through the markets stands at UGX 23.4 trillion. More than 235,000 investors maintain Securities Central Depository accounts, while the authority regulates over 160 licensed market participants. The anniversary program includes nationwide investor education, university and regional outreach, and campaigns aimed at farmers and younger audiences. It will culminate in a Capital Markets Symposium and Awards on Oct. 8, 2026, alongside a 30-year impact report and documentary series.
