Ahmed Said Mustafa, deputy minister of finance and public enterprises, identified the expansion of Islamic finance within the Maldives’ national financial system as a government priority during remarks at the launch of the International Conference on Islamic Economics and Training Camp 2026. He called for Islamic finance to be integrated into the country’s broader economic framework. Mustafa highlighted the signing of a framework agreement with the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation for a new USD 1.5 billion trade financing facility, as well as support from the Islamic Development Bank. He also emphasized equitable management of state resources in accordance with Islamic principles and direct support for vulnerable people.
