EBA CLEARING announced a partnership agreement with CBI and Nexi to enable the transmission of “request to pay” messages between Italian citizens and public administrations, allowing public administration payment notices to be delivered and paid through customers’ bank channels. The arrangement combines the CBI Globe infrastructure, EBA CLEARING’s R2P Service and Nexi’s technology, using pan-European rules, ISO 20022 messaging and real-time message exchange. Payments to the public administration are positioned as the first Italian use case for request to pay, following testing in 2025, and the set-up is intended to support additional national and SEPA-wide request-to-pay use cases over time.
