The European Commission has approved a EUR 170 million Bulgarian State aid scheme to support farming companies affected by higher fuel and fertiliser prices resulting from the Middle East crisis. The scheme will provide direct grants until Dec. 31, 2026, with aid capped at EUR 50,000 per company and calibrated to the relevant price increases. The Commission approved the measure under EU State aid rules and the Middle East Crisis Temporary State Aid Framework. It found that the scheme meets the framework’s conditions for temporarily supporting companies engaged in the primary production of agricultural products and is necessary, appropriate and proportionate.
