The Egypt Financial Regulatory Authority has approved updates to the personal accident insurance policy for Egyptians working abroad and their families under the “Tameenak fi Masr” initiative, following a cooperation protocol with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Migration. The revised policy, described as offering optional coverage, will apply from July 2025 and increases the sum insured for death and permanent total disability to EGP 250,000 from EGP 100,000. The updated policy broadens eligibility for the first time to cover all Egyptians working abroad and their families, instead of limiting participation to individuals holding work permits under Law No. 173 of 1958. The Egyptian Travel Abroad Insurance Pool will manage the policy, and Egyptians abroad without work permits can subscribe via the pool’s website, mobile application, and WhatsApp. The policy provides protection for natural death or death due to an accident, and for accidents causing permanent total disability while abroad, and sets out compensation mechanics for repatriation of remains or burial abroad, alongside an age condition that the insured must be at least 18 and no more than 70 at the time of the accident.
