South Korea’s Ministry of Economy and Finance announced that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Lee Hyoung-il will attend the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok, alongside meetings of G20 and G7 finance ministers and central bank governors. In his first major multilateral meetings since taking office in September, Lee will discuss global economic and financial issues and present South Korea’s economic fundamentals and policy direction to international institutions, sovereign rating agencies and foreign counterparts. Lee will attend the G20 meeting on Oct. 15, the final in-person finance ministers’ meeting under the U.S. presidency before the December G20 summit, followed by a G7 meeting as an invited participant. South Korea has been invited to two G7 finance ministers’ meetings in the same year for the first time. He will join the International Monetary and Financial Committee on Oct. 17 and hold separate meetings with international financial institution heads, Moody’s, Fitch, S&P Global Ratings, Euroclear Group and finance ministers from seven countries.
