The South African Reserve Bank published its statement of assets and liabilities as at 30 April 2025, reporting total assets and total equity and liabilities of ZAR 1,309,041,209,300, up ZAR 17,544,570,851 from end-March. Total gold and foreign assets rose by ZAR 15,939,146,547 to ZAR 1,254,707,249,352, reflecting higher gold holdings value (up ZAR 13,711,400,275 to ZAR 244,905,942,503) and higher Special Drawing Rights holdings (up ZAR 3,671,269,188 to ZAR 119,486,943,852), partly offset by a fall in foreign exchange reserves excluding SDRs (down ZAR 1,443,522,916 to ZAR 890,314,362,997). On the liabilities side, notes and coin in circulation increased by ZAR 2,559,448,247 to ZAR 170,330,680,341, while deposits from banks fell by ZAR 10,139,916,563 to ZAR 323,859,938,314 and the gold and foreign exchange contingency reserve account rose by ZAR 26,333,462,220 to ZAR 390,234,723,573.

South African Reserve Bank publishes April 2025 statement of assets and liabilities with balance sheet rising to ZAR 1.309 trillion
The South African Reserve Bank reported total assets and liabilities of ZAR 1.31 trillion as of 30 April 2025, an increase of ZAR 17.54 billion from March. Total gold and foreign assets rose by ZAR 15.94 billion, driven by higher gold and Special Drawing Rights holdings, despite a decrease in foreign exchange reserves. Liabilities saw an increase in notes and coin circulation and the contingency reserve account, while bank deposits decreased.
