The Central Reserve Bank of El Salvador reported that the economy grew 5.1% year over year in the second quarter of 2026, accelerating from the same period of 2025. Gross domestic product reached USD 10,060.6 million, an increase of USD 926.5 million. Growth was broad based and led by construction, health and electricity, with additional support from services, tourism and household spending backed by remittances. Construction expanded 11.2% amid real estate, commercial, tourism, logistics and public infrastructure projects. Construction credit rose 30.9% and housing financing increased 65.1% year over year through June, while apparent cement consumption climbed 19.9%. Health grew 8.7%, supported in part by the opening of the new Rosales National Specialized Hospital, and electricity rose 8.1% as high temperatures lifted demand. Remittances totaled USD 2,625 million from April through June. Personal services and agriculture were the only contracting sectors, declining 0.5% and 0.9%, respectively, and together represented 6.4% of GDP.
