The messages claim that all adult citizens of Montenegro can receive a one-time EUR 50 payment if they click a link, but the central bank said it did not send the messages and is not involved. It described the campaign as an online phishing scam aimed at getting citizens to open fraudulent links and potentially disclose personal, financial or banking information. The bank said it communicates only through its official website and verified social media accounts. It also stressed that it does not run joint promotional campaigns with individual private legal entities and does not ask citizens to click links, complete forms, install applications or provide personal or banking information in order to receive unexpected financial benefits, gifts or rewards. Citizens were urged not to open links in such messages, not to disclose information, not to forward the messages, and to report suspicious messages to the relevant authorities before deleting them.
