The South Korea Financial Services Commission will closely monitor 325 housing project finance projects in the capital region that are expected to begin construction or be completed in 2027, including viable projects facing temporary liquidity constraints. During a visit to a Gimpo development, Chairman Lee Eog-weon called on the Korea Housing Finance Corporation and private financial institutions to provide timely guarantees and funding, building on the housing finance measures announced on Aug. 13 and the subsequent launch of dedicated support centers for project finance and construction company financing difficulties. The Gimpo site illustrates how public guarantees can support housing delivery. About KRW 600 billion of Korea Housing Finance Corporation guarantees enabled stable financing for approximately 2,700 homes after a property market slowdown, higher interest rates and rising construction costs disrupted the project. The corporation has increased its 2026 guarantee target from KRW 6 trillion to KRW 9 trillion, while KB Kookmin Bank plans to substantially expand its internal project finance limits after providing about KRW 4 trillion of such lending this year.
