The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority released its response to consultation on the National Claims and Policies Database and said it will finalise the non-confidentiality determination and proceed with updated publications. The package keeps the current scope of data treated as non-confidential, maintains the existing level of aggregation and confidentiality safeguards, and moves to a simplified, standardised downloadable publication format. It also confirms that cyber insurance and management liability will be published as separate product classes. Industry submissions were broadly supportive, although some raised concerns about confidentiality, identifiability in smaller product segments and product definitions. APRA said published outputs will continue to use the existing aggregation approach, with additional masking in external publications to manage privacy risks, while more granular access may be considered subject to confidentiality controls. To address uncertainty around cyber insurance where cover is not always sold on a standalone basis, APRA will work with industry on a Reporting Practice Guide. Lloyd's statistics will continue to be published broadly in line with current practice, and the refreshed format will remove the need to truncate development triangles while APRA works on improving timeliness and usability. The initial updated publication will cover data reported up to 31 December 2024. Data for 2025 has already been collected, is being validated and quality assured, and is scheduled for publication later in 2026. APRA said it will continue engaging with stakeholders on implementation of the refreshed approach.
