The Central Bank of Barbados reported expanded in-person public outreach to prepare consumers and merchants for the 31 March go-live of BiMPay, Barbados’ national instant payment system. Recent engagements included on-site teams at the Brighton Farmers Market and the Barbados Horticultural Society’s Annual Flower Show. The outreach has focused on vendors and small business owners, with teams operating an information booth for patrons and a roving group to speak directly with merchants. The Bank reported largely positive feedback, with many attendees already aware of BiMPay and others seeking additional information about features including 10-second payments between users in Barbados, 24/7 availability, and payment initiation via phone number, email address, or QR code. Earlier engagements included the Small Business Association’s Small Business Week roadshow in St. James, St. Andrew, and St. Peter, and a Bridgetown Walk visit to city businesses. The Bank’s next planned appearances include the Holetown Festival and Laff It Off, alongside other activities aimed at readiness for rollout.
