Hong Kong Interbank Clearing Limited has warned the public about several fraudulent websites falsely claiming to be linked to HKICL and offering purported Buyer Online Protection services for Faster Payment System transactions. The sites claim to provide buyer refunds, unauthorised transaction reporting and transaction support, but are designed to obtain personal identification details, phone numbers and bank account information from users. The warning covers websites that ask users to submit document numbers, identification photos and mobile numbers for so-called real name verification in exchange for a cash reward. They also seek bank name, account number and account holder name to enable top-ups and withdrawals through a virtual wallet via FPS, and direct users to fraudsters posing as customer service staff. HKICL said the websites have no affiliation with it, noted that it does not directly provide FPS services to individual members of the public or usually contact them proactively, and identified its genuine websites as https://www.hkicl.com.hk and https://fps.hkicl.com.hk.
