The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has announced an updated service schedule for the two “Coin Carts” operating under its Coin Collection Programme, covering 2 June 2025 to 17 August 2025, with locations and operational details published on the programme webpage. The Coin Carts collect coins from the public across Hong Kong’s 18 districts on a rotating basis, typically staying at each location for a week subject to parking availability and maintenance. Service hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with each vehicle equipped with two coin counting machines, operational staff support and an electrical wheelchair lift; users can exchange coins for banknotes or add value to stored-value facilities such as Octopus Cards and e-wallets including AlipayHK, Octopus Wallet, Tap&Go and WeChat Pay, and the service is free of charge. Since the programme launched in October 2014 through 31 March 2025, the two Coin Carts carried out 1,340,000 transactions and collected 1,031 million coins with a total face value of HKD 1,652 million, which are re-circulated to meet demand. The HKMA said it will review the programme from time to time and regularly update the service schedule to provide advance notice to the public.
