The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued a public scam alert following a bank press release, reported to the HKMA, concerning fraudulent websites and an internet banking login screen linked to Chong Hing Bank Limited. A hyperlink to the bank’s press release is available on the HKMA website. The HKMA reminded the public that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to banks’ websites to carry out transactions, and will not ask for sensitive information such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords by phone, email or SMS. Anyone who has provided personal information or conducted financial transactions in response to the scams should contact the relevant bank using details in the corresponding press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre.
