The Maldives Monetary Authority has warned individuals and businesses not to conduct foreign currency exchange transactions with unlicensed operators. Providing money changing services without an authority-issued license is an offense under Maldivian law, and the authority has identified parties carrying out such transactions without authorization. The authority published details of 59 licensed operators as of Sept. 9, 2026. Anyone exchanging foreign currency through a provider other than a bank should verify that the provider holds a valid license and conducts the transaction in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
