The Bank of Israel has approved a framework for contactless cash withdrawals from automated teller machines, following deliberations by the ATM Committee. The change will allow withdrawals using payment cards and digital wallets without inserting a card into the machine, with ATMs to be upgraded gradually as the framework is implemented. Rollout will take place in three stages. In the first stage, through July 2027, contactless withdrawals will be available at technology-enabled ATMs of the bank where the customer holds an account, followed by interoperable contactless withdrawals for all cardholders at any technology-enabled ATM through December 2027. In the second stage, beginning in June 2027, no new ATMs that do not support contactless cash withdrawals may be installed. In the third stage, all ATMs are to be upgraded to support contactless cash withdrawals by the end of 2030.
