The Central Bank of Egypt denied reports circulating on social media and news websites that new paper currency issues had been released for 25 and 50 piasters and the EGP 1 note. It said no new banknotes of those denominations are currently being printed. The bank said the paper notes currently in circulation for those denominations are from earlier issues, remain legal tender and will continue to circulate in the Egyptian market until the end of their useful life and cash cycle. It also clarified that reporting on issued currency for these denominations includes the total stock of paper issues released since they were first introduced that still circulates alongside coins. Any new issues of 25, 50 and 100 piaster denominations in recent years were coins only.
