The Bank of Cape Verde has announced a conference for July 1, 2026 on “The role of insurance in managing climate change risks: innovation and development,” to be held at its auditorium as part of its 50th anniversary events. The conference is framed around Cape Verde’s growing exposure to climate-related risks and will focus on how the insurance sector can respond through innovation, adaptation of risk coverage tools, stronger insurance uptake, and responses to regulatory and supervisory challenges. The event will bring together representatives from Portugal’s Insurance and Pension Funds Supervisory Authority, insurance companies, other financial institutions, national authorities, academia, and international organizations and partners. It is structured in two parts: one on international experience with regulatory frameworks and good practices for climate risk management, and another for the domestic insurance sector to discuss its main challenges, innovations, and recent developments.
