The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) has ordered the cessation of insurance intermediation conducted through four websites that were offering insurance services without authorisation, and has triggered their blocking by internet service providers operating in Italy. The sites named in the order are www.biasini-online.com and biasini-online.com, preventivi.gentlemenriders.it, assicurailtuofuturo.it, and www.ungarobroker.it. Blocking activities by providers are underway, although the effective blocking may take a few days for technical reasons. The cessation orders are published in the “Defend ourselves from scams” section of the IVASS website, bringing the total number of sites subject to such orders to 220 since IVASS began exercising its blocking power in November 2023. IVASS also urged consumers to use caution when assessing insurance offers via the internet, phone, or messaging apps, especially short-term motor third-party liability policies, and to verify—before paying any premium—that quotes and contracts relate to duly authorised insurers and intermediaries by consulting IVASS’s online registers and lists, including the Single Register of Insurance Intermediaries (RUI).
