The Central Bank of Libya said Governor Naji Mohammed Issa began official meetings in Washington with the International Monetary Fund's Statistics Department, focusing on improving the quality and timeliness of Libya's economic data. The discussions centered on upgrading the Consumer Price Index, improving inflation measurement and preparing gross domestic product data at both current and constant prices. The meeting produced two agreed areas of support. The IMF will provide technical support to help the Central Bank of Libya transition to the seventh edition of the Balance of Payments Manual, while broader support for Libya will be coordinated through the Ministry of Planning to strengthen the country's macroeconomic data system and its capacity for evidence-based decision-making. The bank framed the meeting as part of a wider effort to correct and restructure Libya's statistical foundations.
