The Central Bank of Poland’s preliminary balance of payments data show that the current account deficit widened to PLN 15.4 billion in August 2026 from PLN 11.3 billion a year earlier. A PLN 13.1 billion goods deficit and PLN 16.3 billion primary income deficit outweighed surpluses of PLN 12.9 billion in services and PLN 1.1 billion in secondary income. Goods exports rose 14.4% year over year to PLN 123.1 billion, their strongest increase since March 2023, while imports climbed 16.7% to PLN 136.3 billion, the sharpest rise since November 2022. Higher global prices and expanding trade in computer equipment, supported by investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure, drove both flows. The primary income deficit deteriorated by PLN 0.9 billion, mainly because of income earned by foreign direct investors, while services income growth lagged the increase in services expenditure.
