The Central Bank of Mongolia reported on discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank on expanding cooperation to refine monetary policy and macroeconomic frameworks, strengthen banking regulation and supervision, and enhance financial stability. Governor S. Narantsogt led the delegation at the institutions’ annual meetings in Bangkok from October 12 to 17, 2026. Discussions with international partners also explored opportunities in financial markets, asset management and sustainable finance. The meetings reviewed how investment in advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technologies has helped offset global trade disruptions, supply chain bottlenecks and uncertainty linked to Middle East tensions. They also highlighted potential medium- to long-term risks, including energy disruptions, sharp declines in government securities values, lower returns on AI investments and growing cyberattack losses. Policy discussions emphasized aligning policy instruments with evolving conditions and responding promptly, alongside strengthening financing frameworks for climate adaptation and addressing the economic challenges of population ageing.
