Mexico's National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services (CONDUSEF) published a snapshot of consumer complaints in the state of Michoacán for January to June 2025, reporting 3,317 complaints, up 6.6% from the same period in 2024 and representing 2.5% of complaints nationwide. The amount claimed totalled MXN 236.7 million, down 4.3% year on year. Most cases were handled via Electronic Management (62.2%), with 17.5% processed through REDECO for issues linked to debt collection agencies and 20.3% through other CONDUSEF processes. Credit cards, debit cards and personal loans accounted for 56% of complaints; the leading causes were unrecognised purchases, refusal to pay compensation and unrecognised electronic transfers, together 32.4%. By sector, multiple banking represented 67.0% of complaints, followed by insurers (14.4%) and SOFOM E.N.R. (5.7%); within multiple banking, 28.5% of complaints came from older adults and 55.1% were linked to potential fraud, mainly unrecognised purchases and electronic transfers. CONDUSEF also reiterated that users can file and track complaints through its online channels, including the Electronic Complaint Portal and REDECO, and reminded consumers that its procedures are free and do not require intermediaries.
