The National Credit Union Administration announced that Keith Morton will retire as Regional Director of its Southern Region, with 29 August 2025 as his last day in the role. Cory Phariss will serve as Acting Regional Director for the Southern Region while continuing as President of the NCUA’s Asset Management Assistance Center. Morton joined the NCUA in 1986 as a field examiner in Washington, D.C., and has led the Southern Region from Austin, Texas since 2006, including seven years as President of the Asset Management Assistance Center. His responsibilities included supervising credit unions across a footprint ranging from the east coast to the southwest, and his tenure spanned agency work related to events including Hurricane Katrina, the Great Recession, the corporate system resolution, and the impact on institutions from the collapse of the taxi medallion market.
