The National Bank of the Republic of Tajikistan reported on a 27 May 2025 meeting between its chairman, Firdavs Tolibzoda, and Asad Alam, a regional director for Europe and Central Asia for equitable finance and institutions development, covering progress on current projects and priority cooperation areas including financial inclusion and the shift toward a cashless economy. Discussions covered financial and private sector development projects, development policy support and financial sector strengthening in Tajikistan, with the parties noting that reforms under a reform matrix have been implemented to improve financial sector efficiency and access to financial services. Work is continuing under phase 2 of the “Strengthening the Financial Sector in Tajikistan” project and the “Financial and Private Sector Development” project. The National Bank highlighted banking-sector measures to expand non-cash payments, develop digital infrastructure, introduce innovative technologies and improve services, with financial institutions using remote banking channels including payment cards, e-wallets, mobile and internet banking, POS-terminal payments and QR codes. The meeting also considered potential new partnership areas in insurance, climate change and gender equality, and both sides expressed readiness to continue cooperation.
